Celebrity Hybrids: Speed Racer Really Drives Toyota Hybrid Cars
June 4th, 2008 | by admin |The movie Speed Racer has taken a lot of flak from the media. Critics don’t like it and even race car drivers have had some negative things to say about the film. That’s due in part to the fact that the star of the movie said in an interview that the car he really drives is a Toyota Hybrid. He went on to express the need for consumers to care about Toyota hybrid cars and other green cars. Racing fans are typically more concerned with speed than being green and therefore didn’t take well to the idea that Speed Racer is out talking about Toyota Hybrids.
Toyota Hybrid Interview
It was in an interview that the movie’s star did for ESPN’s Nascar Now that he mentioned what he really drives is a Toyota hybrid. He couldn’t really have avoided discussing his Toyota hybrid since he was directly asked the question of what he drives. However, he didn’t need to go on with a lengthy discussion about Toyota Hybrid cars and the importance of green technology which is precisely what he did. This alienated many racing fans who just aren’t taking an interest in Toyota Hybrids.
Can Toyota Hybrids Be Racing Cars?
This begs the question of whether Toyota hybrids and racing cars have to be mutually exclusive. The reason that Toyota Hybrid cars are not of interest to the racing market appears to be because green cars aren’t a priority for them. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the technology behind Toyota hybrid cars isn’t suited to racing. It’s certainly a stretch to say that Toyota hybrids are going to be the fastest cars on the track but stranger things have certainly happened in the world of racing.
